We’ll keep piling on the entertainment and filmmaking events right to the last, here’s what we have in store for the final day of the Fastnet Film Festival, 2014.

The day commences with screenings of ALL potential winners of our various film categories in the Plaza Cinema from 10am through till 5pm. Our Artistic Director, Chris O’Dell, chairs a Technical Forum at the Satellite Centre from 10.30am till 1pm, the focus being on “Camera, Lighting and Editing” with some gifted technical experts sharing their knowledge. Helen Selka’s ‘Bleak Paradise’ takes the main screen at the Adelphi from 11.30am, followed by Local Interest films from our talented schoolchildren here in Schull.

Our main event today is welcoming the team responsible for the Oscar-nominated “Philomena” to Schull. Steve Coogan introduces the screening of the film from 2pm and will be joined by Stephen Frears, Gabrielle Tana and Tracey Seaward afterwards for a discussion chaired by Greg Dyke.

Closing the festival will be our awards ceremony and partying till late… phew!

Potential category winners will be screened all day in the Plaza.

10.30-13.00 – Satellite Centre
Technical Forum – Camera, Lighting and Editing
Chair: Chris O’Dell.
 Panel: Ian D Murphy, Rob Flanagan, Killian Fitzgerald, Rupert McCarthy-Morrough and more. 
An opportunity for all those who have attended seminars, forums, and workshops, to get together with the experts and equipment and discuss craft issues.

11.00-13.00 – Carlton Cinema
One-to-One Funding Clinic
With mentors Gaby Smyth and Hilary Durman. Filmmakers may book a private half hour session with an experienced producer, to explore the wide range of options available in raising finance for film production. Participants will be able to discuss their own particular financing issues.

11.30-13.00 – Adelphi Cinema
Bleak Paradise
As part of out Local Interest section, “Bleak Paradise” directed by Helen Selka is an in-depth examination of the beauty and harshness of life on Long Island, Schull, Co. Cork.
Helen Selka is a documentary filmmaker with a life-long connection with West Cork. Her work is informed by her training as an actor at RADA.

13.00-14.00 – Adelphi Cinema
Schools Programme
“Happy in Schull”. Children from Scoil Mhuire National School will screen their short film ‘Happy in Schull’. A charming look at happiness from their perspective, aided by their teachers with the help of Martin Levis.“Passion” is a YMCA TechSpace shot film created by transition year Students 2014 from Schull Community College. The students wanted to highlight the importance of passion in their lives and have conveyed this through famous inspirational quotes. Passion, a strong and barely controllable emotion.

14.00-16.00 – Adelphi Cinema
An emotional story inspired by true events, tinged with tragedy and comedy, about two very different people who join forces on a remarkable journey seeking to uncover the truth behind a heart-breaking story that has remained a mystery for half a century. Introduced by Steve Coogan.

17.00-19.00 – Adelphi Cinema
Steve Coogan, Stephen Frears, Gabrielle Tana & Tracey Seaward in conversation with Greg Dyke.
Our traditional penultimate event of the festival – this year Greg has an entourage from ‘Philomena’ to interview. Full details in the programme.

19.30-21.00 – Adelphi Cinema
The Awards: Prize-giving and Closing Ceremony.
Will your film have won one of our prestigious “Al” gongs? You’ll just have to wait and see…
