Músclaíonn An Carraig Aonair samlaíocht na ndaoine leis na céadta bliain. Thug na Lochlannaigh “the sharp toothed rock” air. “An Carraig Aonair” nó “the lone rock” a cuireadh na hÉireannaigh air toisc gur mharcáil sé imeall an tsaoil a raibh cur amach acu air, san am a chuaigh thart.
(For Centuries the Fastnet Rock has kindled our imaginations. Known as the ‘Sharp Toothed Rock’ by the Norsemen and as ‘An Charraig Aonair’ or Lone Rock by the Irish it marked the edge of the known world in days gone by.)
Tógadh an teach solais éachtach, mór le rá seo, déanta as carraig, sa 20ú haois. Is iontach an gaisce é, agus tá sé ar cheann de na tithe solais is aitheanta ar domhan.
(Its impressive rock lighthouse constructed at the beginning of the 20th Century is a magnificent achievement and is one of the most iconic and best known in the World.)
I gcaitheamh na mblianta, spreag sé dánta, amhráin agus finscéalta. Is foinse fiosrachta é, a mheallann na mílte bád seoil chuige bliain i ndiaidh bliana. Cuirtear spéis ina struchtúr, agus samhlaítear conas mar a bhí saol na gcoimeádaithe ann fadó.
(It has inspired poetry, songs and legends and is the object of insatiable curiosity as thousands sail towards and around it every year as they try to see as much as possible of its structures and to imagine how life must have been for its light housekeepers.)
D’fhormhór na ndaoine, áfach, tá an Carraig Aonair fós ina rún. Ciallaíonn suaiteacht leanúnach na farraige thart timpeall air gur annamh is féidir teacht i dtír ann. Mar sin, tá feidhmiú inmheánach an Charraig Aonair fós ina mhistéir dúinn.
(But the Fastet remains elusive for all but the few. The constant turbulence of the waters that surround it means that landing is rarely possible and its inner workings remain a mystery to us.)
Ach anois, tugann an eispéaras réaltacht fhíorúil seo deis do dhaoine gach cearn is clúid den teach solais a fheiscint faoi threoir an sheanchoimeádaí Gerard Butler. Cuirfear fáilte ‘s fiche romhaibh ar deireadh thiar cuairt a thabhairt ar Eispéaras Réaltacht Fhíorúil an Charraig Aonair chun léargas nua a fháil air.
(But now, this virtual reality tour brings you to every nook and cranny of the lighthouse in the company of former light housekeeper Gerard Butler. Seen from above, below and inside tá fáilte romhaibh ar deireadh thiar cuairt a thabhairt ar an Charraig Aonair.)
Is scannán eachtraíochta fíorspéisiúil, dúisitheach a insíonn scéal na ngaoth fórsca hairicín agus na tonnta chomh mór le tithe a bhí ann le linn Rás Luamhaireachta an Charraig Aonair i mí Lúnasa 1979. Baineann faitíos agus muinín, marthanas agus manachain, agus cumhacht agus mealltacht na farraige leis.
(‘Back To The Rock’ is a gripping and evocative adventure story of hurricane winds and waves the size of houses experienced during the Fastnet Yacht Race of August 1979. It is also a story of fear and courage, survival and disaster, and the power and allure of the sea.)
I mí Lúnasa 1979, le linn an rása luamhaireachta, réab stoirm, nach raibh réamhaisnéisithe, tríd chabhlaigh an trí céad bhád. Bhí go leor bád ann a chaill a gcrann seoil, nó a bhí fágtha gan chriú. Chuaigh cuid acu go tóin poill. Fé dheireadh an rása, cailleadh 21 duine. Níos mó ná 40 bhliain níos déanaí, cuimhníonn John O’Donnell, a ghlac páirt sa rás i 1979 mar dhéagóir ar bord an luamh “Sundowner”, siar ar an stoirm. Cuireann John scéal “Fastnet ‘79” i láthair le húsáid íomhánna agus dearcthaí daoine éagsúla a bhí ar an bhfarraige an lá sin, agus ar an talamh.
(In August 1979 during the race a storm, not forecast, struck the fleet of over 300 boats. Many boats were dis-masted or abandoned; some boats sank. By the end of the race, 21 people were dead. More than 40 years later John O’Donnell, who as a teenager sailed in the 1979 Fastnet aboard the yacht “Sundowner,” remembers the storm. In his illustrated presentation John will tell the story of ‘Fastnet 79’ from various different perspectives of those at sea, as well as those on land.)
Tá Peter Coonan mar phríomhphearsa an scannáin “Doineann”, stiúrtha ag Damian McCann. Tá an scannán suite ar oileán Gaeltachta iargúlta ar chósta thiar na hÉireann. Imríonn Peter Coonan páirt Thomáis, iriseoir iniúchta, a fhileann abhaile lá amháin agus a fhaigheann amach go bhfuil a bhean chéile agus a pháiste imithe. Tá stoirm ar an slí, agus níl aon dul as eile aige ach a mhuinín a chur ins an t-aon gharda scortha ar an oileán, Labhaoise. Tá casadh gan choinne sa scéal, agus tagann fírinní míshocra chun solais. Idir an dá linn, éiríonn an stoirm níos giorra.
‘Doineann’ directed by Damian McCann and starring Peter Coonan is set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Investigative journalist Tomás played by Peter Coonan returns home to find his wife and child have vanished. With nowhere to turn and a storm approaching, he is forced to place his trust in the small community's lone retired police officer, Labhaoise. As the search takes an unexpected turn, some uncomfortable truths are revealed. Meanwhile the storm looms ever closer.
